Kolkata Police took Indian Secular Front (ISF) MLA Naushad Siddiqui into custody on Tuesday as he was about to depart for Sandeshkhali. The incident unfolds against the backdrop of heightened tensions in Sandeshkhali, where women have been rallying for justice in response to alleged atrocities perpetrated by TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan and his associates.
MLA Naushad Siddiqui said, 'Why am I being stopped from going to Sandeshkhali? What is the reason behind my detention? Is there any written order?'
Amidst the unrest, the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court intervened, directing the inclusion of Sheikh Shahjahan in the Sandeshkhali case and ordering his prompt arrest. West Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law, stating that if the elected government fails to act accordingly, the Governor will intervene.
